Edit Post

Well it has been a while since I had a chance to update here and such a lot has happened I don't really know where to start.
Firstly I got my award notice from StudentFinance and am very pleased to say that I will get enough to allow me to start my course as planned in September. Hurrah!!
Secondly I started and finished my traditional submission for the tattoo flash company within a week and have sent that off for their consideration. I am very happy with how she turned out and loved working with my pencils again. She is called Aphrodite, the Goddess of beauty, love, pleasure, procreation and sensuality (all the good stuff). The legends state that she was born from the foaming sea (after the sea god was castrated by his own son who then threw the genitals into the sea. Harsh, I know)
For obvious reasons she is absolutely my favourite Goddess and was so much fun to draw.
As yet I have not heard back from the tattoo company but it seems a different future lies in store for me and my girls. I can't say too much just yet as I don't want to tempt fate but I will hopefully be able to reveal more soon.
All in all I am feeling rather pleased with myself right now. I made the decision to study architecture because I am a realist and knew that I might never make it as an artist. Now it is looking possible that I might get both

They replied!! and back to the drawing board :)

Yay!! I got a reply from the tattoo flash suppliers that I submitted my work to. Plus some really useful, constructive feedback
The verdict?? Some bad, some good.
Basically they do not accept digital artwork because it does not accurately represent what a tattoo would look like on the skin. Fair comment.
Thankfully I had also sent some of my sketches and pencil drawings, because they are interested in seeing more traditional work and have suggested I resubmit again.
I am really pleased with that outcome. Of course I would have loved for them to have fallen over themselves to buy my work straight off but in reality that was never going to happen. Hey can't blame a girl for day dreaming he he.
I am just soooo happy that they like my work enough to want to see more.
However, this means that the girls I had been working on for this purpose are not suitable which is a shame but not effort wasted as I had been considering working them up so that I could try selling them as illustrations on RedBubble or deviantArt or similar. They will go on the back burner for a while so that I can work on some new girls to submit but thats fine. It also means that I can finally show you guys the full pictures instead of just cropped versions. See below........ Please let me know what you think. Its getting real lonely round here
I am really looking forward to drawing with a pencil again. I do love working digitally because of the flexibility but I miss the satisfaction of traditional art. So back to the drawing board....... literally

I have done the deed and finally posted my submission to the tattoo flash supplier for their consideration.
Despite the fact that the girls were ready to send of about 3 weeks ago I have only just managed to get them printed and a letter of introduction printed.
I won't bore/disgust you with the details but suffice to say that I have had a very frustrating and painful few weeks. I reached the point yet again where I was close to giving up drawing altogether. I get so fed up with trying to desperately juggle all of my responsibilities and my art is the lowest priority.
However I have picked myself up again and got those lovely ladies in an envelope. They went in the post box 30 mins ago so now the waiting begins.
I really wish I could post the full images on here instead of just cropped versions but until I know where I stand I can't risk it.
I will now spend some time finishing Fortuna and Tyche and make a start on the other girls in the series. Plus some other work that I have promised to friends - a portrait of an alsatian, a picture of my friend downhill biking and a pin up commision. All have been started but never finished and if nothing else I need to alleviate some guilt for making my dear friends wait so long. I will at least be able to post those pictures here.
So fingers crossed for the safe arrival of my girls and that they will impress enough to get me the gig. I know a few people don't approve of what I am doing because I am not a tattooer and therefore not considered qualified to design tattoo flash but wish me luck just the same, yeah?

Nearly ready to send

Edit Post
I haven't had much chance to update this blog what with kids being ill then getting man flu, but thankfully I have managed to get some drawing done.
So here is a detail update of Fortunas stocking skirt and stomach. Her stocking were supposed to be white and her skirt blue but I wasn't happy with how the overall colour scheme was looking so I changed things a bit.
Pretty happy so far just need a bit more depth on the skirt and more highlights on the stockings and some tidying up.
I am not too concerned with it being absolutely perfect as this one will be sent to the flash supplier as a work in progress anyway. Just need to get it to the stage where they can get a good idea of my style.
How much I will get done this week is debatible as it is half term. A house full of kids is not really condusive to drawing I'm afraid.

Spoke too soon

So as usual whenever I make rash declarations about completing projects the mischeivous gods of motherhood start to rub their hands together gleefully.
This time they took it upon themselves to ensure that I never consider making any plans ever again (or at least for the next 14 years) and struck the twins down with flu.
The poor little mites have spent the last seven days alternating between fever and coughing fits. I have been a nervous wreck as Chunk (my endearing nickname for the larger, dominant twin) has asthma which is triggered by viruses.
So suffice to say I haven't been able to draw at all since my last blog. Thankfully they are now over the worst of it and Squiggle (the little, bonkers twin) even went to pre school today. Her sister however grasped the opportunity to squeeze a few hours alone time with Mummy and declared herself far too ill to go.
I did get a few hours this evening at last and cracked on with fortunas shirt and hair so the end is in sight.

Face done (I think)
02:32 |
Edit Post
Okay so I had my usual child free 3 hours yesterday while the twins were at pre school so managed to get Fortunas face completed. Although I have discovered that when I put these progress pics out there for public view any mistakes become very obvious.
I guess its a similar reaction to flipping the image. Or more likely that I am just more self critical.
Before uploading this image I am pretty pleased with it. No doubt I will be reworking it by lunchtime though heh.

Pinup WIP #2

Edit Post
This is Tyche (cropped version) - my personal favourite
and the girl that has taken the longest to draw so far.
I hope to have her and Fortuna finished in the next week or so as I intend to submit them to the flash companies and see if anyone is interested in taking my work on.
Unfortunately everytime I look at her I see something else wrong. *sigh*

First WIP

Please give a warm welcome to Fortuna
She is the least finished of the three pieces that I am working on right now and slightly more cartoony although that could change when I start properly rendering her.
I have been accused of being too realistic with my work so the aim is to keep her loose.
This is cropped version as all of my WIPs will need to be as I am unsure where I when I need to sell the flash sheets if there are copies of them all over the internet.
I know that her hand (both of them in fact) need work. They will be my next challenge before adding any more colour.
Well hope you like. Feel free to criticise I am not easily offended and would welcome all and any advice.
kisses
Faye (@bezfaery)Pin up chronicles

Edit Post

Welcome !!! I am Faye (aka Bezfaery or Billberry - depending on where you look) Okay I have been putting this off for some time. It turns out I am quite shy when it comes to blogging. Who knew?
So I am here because as my profile states I am attempting to create a set of pin up tattoo flash sheets before September 2011. I know that sounds like plenty of time doesn't it? 8 months? "How long do you need?!" I hear you ask.
Well that is why I am here. I am horribly afflicted with severe perfectionism and intermittent chronic self doubt, which tend to result in periods of artistic paralysis. Oh yeah and I am mother to four kids (12, 6 and 4 year old twins if you're interested), two dogs and a part time job. The purpose of this blog therefore is, firstly, to chronicle my progress for my own purposes, so I can see how far I have come.
Secondly, to appeal for support and encouragement from others to help me keep the momentum going.
Don't worry I am actually a very positive person so don't expect pages upon pages of negativity and attention seeking - that ain't how I roll.
I will attempt to update regularly(ish) with works in progress rather than hiding them away until I am 100% happy with every miniscule detail (which is my usual tactic). I will no doubt discuss music a bit too as that is my main source of inspiration and often the only tool capable of getting my arse back at the drawing board. It seems only right and fair to give credit.
Below are some of my previous artworks to give you something to look at. They are not all pin ups and some of them are tattoo design commisions. Also these span about 7 years of work and I am not 100% happy with all, if any, of them, but I am aiming to keep this blog honest.
The stuff I am working on now is pretty different to these though. I will post some WIP's as soon as I get a chance (i.e. when the kids are in bed)
kisses
